Celebrating 10+ years of SCu3a Craft Group
At an introductory meeting in September 2013, four popular crafts were identified for members who wanted to learn or continue a craft and individuals willing to help demonstrate and guide beginners with craft techniques.
They were Card Making, Crochet, Knitting and Needlework /Fabric skills.
After a few years we added Beading and Jewellery Making.
More recently we have encouraged imagination and creativity
combined with a soothing Colouring activity that reduces stress levels.
In 2024 we included Diamond Painting.
Current numbers enable all these Crafts to take place in one room. Members bring their own projects to work on, share and display. Offering to upcycle or repurpose contributed craft donations, we store a vast array of materials at the URC which are available for Group members to use during meetings. This also means a beginner can try a new craft without any financial outlay until they decide it is a pastime they wish to expand and buy their own choice of supplies/materials.
Throughout the ten years we have contributed handmade items for various charities. Blankets, cardigans and hats are supplied 2-3 times a year to the Good Hope Hospital Premature Baby unit. We have also held craft sales for raising funds for different charities.
Over the past years we have had group demonstrations, visits to museums & displays of craft work. In 2014 & 2015 handcrafted Christmas decorations were made by our Group and greatly admired on large SCu3a trees provided in Cedar Hall.
During the year, we discuss any new craft ideas or events that the Group might like to participate in.
Please come along to see what we do, continue with an existing craft or try something new and enjoy the company of members who are enthusiastic about Crafts
